Eczema Scar Fading: Techniques for Achieving Smooth and Clear Skin

Eczema, aka dermatitis, is very common and it plagues a significant number of people every year. It is a red, itchy rash that appears in blotches in small parts or all over the body. While redness and itchiness eventually subside with treatment, it leaves behind white or brown discolouration and, sometimes, scars from irritation. There are many factors that can trigger eczema outbreak but whatever the cause may be, prevention is the best way to deal with this issue.

Don’t Scratch

Scratching is hard to resist when you are suffering from eczema. Vigorous and continuous scratching damage the skin’s protective barrier in the process. Itching and rubbing skin can cause infection. Prolonged itching makes scars to appear.

To avoid such a situation, you are recommended to develop a sound skin care regimen after consulting your dermatologist to keep eczema under control.

Keeping the skin clean, using moisturizer and keeping in close contact with your dermatologist about the condition are the best ways to deal with it.

Keep Your Skin Clean

Prevention is the best way to manage an eczema outbreak. Dry skin is a primary symptom of eczema, therefore, it is important to keep your skin clean and moisturize often. Avoid all kind of harsh products and use mild soaps while washing your hands and showering. Also, avoid hot water for a bath as it can make your skin dry, instead use lukewarm water.

Moisturize Your Skin

Eczema makes your skin extremely dry and the regular body lotions cannot handle it. Therefore, emollients are used that keep the skin moist by reducing water loss from the skin. They also help to prevent the patches.

Emulsifying ointments should be used instead of soaps for washing hands and bathing because they don’t disrupt the surface of the skin making it dry and itchy. Use thicker moisturizer when you are dealing with eczema.

Seek Help

Though eczema is incurable, it is possible to control and manage it effectively. It is always wise to consult a dermatologist instead of trying to cure it by yourself. A dermatologist can help you plan the right treatment for your particular skin type to deal with the issue.
