Cotton has greater absorbent capabilities than any other fabric due to which it can wreak havoc on your skin and hair and reverse your beauty efforts. Here, is the scary truth about your favourite cotton pillowcases. Also we breakdown the ways to make it right.

  • Premature Wrinkles

Cotton fabric crunches the collagen and makes lines on the face more prominent. It creates the perfect conditions for premature wrinkles.

What to do: The obvious solution to that is to change your cotton pillowcase and switch to a silk one. A silk pillowcase allows your face to slide against it and decreases the risk of pillow-induced sleep lines and wrinkles.

  • Dry Hair and Skin

Cotton pillows suck up moisture out of your skin leading to wrinkles and fine lines or making them more visible. Dry skin can causes irritation and makes it difficult for skincare products to absorb in it.

Cotton pillows absorb skin products as well and prevent your skin from getting benefits from your night creams and serums.

What to do: Switching to a pure silk pillowcase can benefit you with that as it doesn’t absorb products and moisture out of your skin and hair and you will wake up with silky soft hair and skin every morning.

  • Breakage and Frizz

Cotton pillowcases create friction between hair while you sleep which leads to your hair forming a lot of frizz and, sometimes, breaking, especially if you pull your strands back at night.

What to do: To avoid your hair from forming a frizz and break, use a silk pillowcase or wrap your hair in a silk scarf.

  • Saggy under-eye skin

Flat pillows, cotton as well as silk, make your eyes look more tired and puffier in the morning due to fluids gathering around your eyes during sleep.

What to do: Use a silk sleeping mask. Sleep on your back and elevate your pillow a little as it will prevent fluids from gathering around your eyes and promote better drainage.

  • Breakouts

Pillows can cause breakouts even if you wash your face every night. The dirt, sweat and other unwanted elements from your hair and skin can get into your pillowcase and transmit into your skin again when it comes in contact with the pillow. These pollutants can clog your pores and cause breakouts.

What to do: Wash your pillowcase regularly, especially if you have acne-prone, oily skin or oily hair. Washing your pillowcase once or twice a week can clean the fabric from debris and dirt that clog pores and cause breakouts.
